چکیده

This study aims to determine serum neopterin, procalcitonin, total sialic acid (TSA), paraoxonase-1 (PON1), and some haematological indices in calves with aspiration pneumonia (ASP). The patient group consisted of 30 the Simmental breed, 0–28 days old, diagnosed ASP upon clinical examination, anamnesis, auscultation radiographic results. control 10 healthy calves, otherwise same characteristics. A significant difference was found between iron (Fe, P < 0.001), iron-binding capacity (TIBC, 0.05), PON1, TSA, leukocyte count (WBC) as a result analyses ( 0.001). Serum procalcitonin concentration be 285.71 ng/ml 30.34 group. neopterin 37.68 nmol/l 15.14 TSA concentrations were significantly higher compared It concluded that biomarkers such are high ASP, result, these markers provide diagnostically prognostically important information.

Relationship Between Total and Lipid-bound Serum Sialic Acid and Some Tumor Markers

Background: Increased levels of total and lipid-associated sialic acid (TSA and LASA) have been reported in the sera of patients with benign or malignant tumors and also could be regarded as newly important clinical criteria for the diagnosis of cancer. This study has investigated the differences of TSA and LASA contents between cancer patients and healthy individuals and evaluated their correl...

Relationship between serum sialic acid levels and eye lesions in calves with infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis

Sialic acid (SA), an acetylated derivative of neuroaminic acid, is widely distributed in mammals’ tissues and body fluids. N-acetyl neuroaminic acid is the most common form of SA [3]. Sialic acid significantly bounds to glycoproteins, glycolipids, oligosacharides and polysaccharides, but small amounts are free in the body. Moreover, SA is an important structural component of biological membrane...

Total and Free Serum Sialic Acid Concentration in Liver Diseases

BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to compare the levels of total (TSA) and free (FSA) sialic acid in acute and chronic liver diseases. MaTERIALS AND METHODS: The serum TSA and FSA levels were determined in 278 patients suffering from acute and chronic liver diseases of different etiologies. TSA was estimated by enzymatic method and FSA by the thiobarbituric method modified by Skoza and...
